Perdi più capelli in autunno e primavera? Ti spieghiamo perché

Do you lose more hair in the fall and spring? We explain why

Have you ever noticed that there are times of the year when your hair falls out more noticeably? No, it's not a coincidence and it doesn't just happen to you. In spring and autumn, hair prepares for the new season with a cellular renewal that also leads to some extra hair found on pillows and brushes.

The natural hair cycle

We all lose hair every day, between 50 and 100 a day. It is an absolutely normal cell turnover that follows the natural life cycle of our hair. But how does this cycle work? It can be summarized in birth, growth and fall, and more specifically the 3 phases of hair development are divided into anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the growth phase, which in women lasts between 3 and 7 years. This is the phase in which the hair is formed in its entire structure. The catagen phase, on the other hand, lasts 2-3 weeks, it is the moment in which vital functions stop and the hair prepares to fall out. The last phase, telogen, lasts 2-3 months and is the moment when the hair is ready to fall out. A light brushing or a little friction against the pillow is enough and the hair will give way to a new one which will start the cycle again. Since this rest phase comes every 3 months, this is why we notice a more abundant fall coinciding with the change of season.

The seasonal fall, why?

At the change of season we said that the fall can be more important, this is because your mane reacts to external stimuli and to the signals of the nature that surrounds us. During the summer, for example, hair weakens due to exposure to the sun, salt and chlorine from the swimming pool. All these factors tend to weaken the hair which becomes weak and falls out more easily. In spring, on the other hand, some hormones sensitive to changes in light tend to synchronize the life cycle of the hair, leading to an important but temporary fall. Cutting your hair won't make it stronger, contrary to what they say, rather take a supplement that helps your hair in this process of natural evolution.

Healthy hair with a few little secrets

However, if this copious fall were to continue beyond 2 months, it is appropriate to investigate further. Remember that your hair is the mirror of your health and could be an alarm bell for a hormonal imbalance, a lack of vitamins and nutrients, or a wrong diet.

To protect your hair from the hair dryer and avoid weakening it, always remember to use a heat protectant before drying. Another enemy of the health of our hair is smoking, which together with alcohol contributes to weakening your hair. In fact, alcohol damages the blood vessels that nourish the hair bulb, while smoking prevents the absorption of mineral salts and vitamins essential for the skin.
