When the days get warm and summer arrives, the first desire is to undress and be kissed by the sun. Whether lying on a beach or out on a bike ride, you rediscover the pleasure of being outdoors. Unlike the philosophy that was valid up until a decade ago, where you wanted to be black at all costs to the detriment of your skin's health, in recent years we have finally returned to a greater focus on protection, privileging the health and youth of the skin. If it is true that the sun allows the absorption of vitamin D, strengthening the bones, it is also true that the skin must be protected from any sunburn, which is a real trauma for the skin. It should be remembered that the process of melanogenesis (tanning) is nothing more than a reaction that the body puts in place to protect itself from sun damage .

Our allies par excellence in the hottest season to live the summer while fully respecting our skin are sunscreens, which protect us from UVA and UVB rays . Protection that not only protects the skin from sunburn, but also from premature aging.

What are UVA and UVB rays?

Both are ultraviolet rays from the sun that, crossing the atmosphere, reach us with different wavelengths. UVA rays can penetrate to the dermis causing an alteration of the collagen fibers and premature aging of the skin; UVB rays have a lower penetration force but are responsible for sunburn, erythema and other skin problems .

To enjoy only the beauty of the sun it is therefore necessary to protect the skin from any damage and to do this, sun products are enriched with filters that, depending on their concentration, protect the skin more or less effectively. As we all know, the higher the number with which a sunscreen is identified, the greater its strength. Less known is that there are different types of filters and that they give life to different types of products.

Let's clarify these filters to use them in the best possible way and with maximum awareness. There are two types:

Physical sunscreens

Also called inorganic, they are generally filters of mineral origin such as titanium dioxide. They have the task of reflecting the sun's rays exactly like a mirror, not allowing the penetration of ultraviolet rays . These filters create a real external barrier that disperses in the water when it comes into contact with it without penetrating the body. They are used in full-bodied and creamy sunscreens .

Chemical sunscreens

Also called organic, they are made of molecules capable of absorbing part of the UV rays converting them into another type of energy such as heat and do not work by refraction like physical filters . The law sets very specific rules on the regulation of their use so that they are not toxic for humans or the environment. They are an excellent choice for those sunscreens with a light and watery texture ensuring maximum skin breathability .

In our sunscreens we have decided to focus on maximum protection for the skin by choosing latest-generation chemical filters to guarantee an extremely light and comfortable skin film, an impalpable and pleasant product texture suitable even for the hottest days when you have less desire to feel your skin covered in product.

Sunlover Sun Cream

Both in Elixir Sun Body and in Sunlover we find a very light, extremely spreadable and pleasant formulation which, with the addition of selected ingredients such as celligent (in the case of Sunlover) and ectoine and echinacea stem cells (in the case of Elixir Sun), become a real anti-age and anti-smog treatment.

We would also like to remind you that sunscreens, although excellent in summer or in the sun (even in the mountains in winter), should be abandoned during the rest of the year so as not to overload the skin with molecules that are not needed to replace them with products more suitable for the different seasons.

Happy, tanned and protected summer to all!
